Contemporary Landscape Series
My contemporary landscape series is a landscape that has been distilled down to its important elements without details. Most of my contemporary paintings come from a particular area called the Sugarloaf Open Space in Walnut Creek..
I discovered it when I moved to Walnut Creek. When I experienced its hills, views and peaceful areas for the first time,
I felt so fortunate to live nearby and immediately set to work to paint a series depicting this wonderful and idyllic place.
I have now hiked in Sugarloaf many times and in all seasons. I chose to paint in the spring when the
predominant colors are shades of green and yellow. The hill grasses seem to undulate like waves in an ocean
and change their colors depending on the time of day and atmospheric conditions.
Besides the color changes, I am interested in exploring the endless amount of shapes created by hills.
I paint these hills with layers of thin oil paint to increase the intensity of color.
I am currently working on another season of different colors at Sugarloaf |
